Cancun for a day and Quito, Ecuador

So this is my 2nd post in 2 days, wow I really spoil you guys!

I had a stop over in Cancun for 1 day, stayed at Selina (Its a bouji hostel) and it was quite nice but had more of a resort feel. Did a tour of the beach area with the hostel group and then we explored the night life a bit. Cancun is is trying to be a mini Vegas. We saw no Americans because everyone is likely being entertained in their all inclusive hotels. They have some nice restaurants but didn't have time to check them out.

I arrived at Quito the following day, and again staying at Selina. Very few people speak English here which is great for my Spanish. There was an awesome concert in the evening.

Everything is in American dollars here, 1 dollar bills are the best. The city is beautiful because it's surrounded by mountains.  The altitude is 2850 m which means a little less oxygen which means I get a bit tired after short walks and going to the gym was tough .People are trying to sell coca leaves in the tourist areas for this but I've never found it works.

I did a free walking tour (plus tip) in the morning which was could to get a general idea of where things are. There are LOTS of fancy churches, all very close to each other, reminds me of the bubble tea places in downtown Toronto.

We tried some fancy fruits - I am a connoisseur of exotic fruits but forgot about taxo - banana passionfruit, as well as naranjilla. Both a bit sour, nothing to write home about. They don't have Lucuma, which is probably my favourite fruit in the world (oro de las Incas - gold of the incas).

Also, on thing I've found is that if someone doesn't like dragon fruit, they probably haven't had the yellow kind (very sweet but best one). If people don't like passion fruit, they probably haven't had granadilla (which is by far the better tasting passion fruit).

I am super excited for Monday because I will be going to a program with my Spanish school Vida Verde in the amazon rain forest, classes in the morning and then activities in the afternoon.
