San Diego adventures!

So after a great wedding in La Jolla, I decided to spend a few days (5 to be exact) in San Diego. I found a place in the Gaslamp district, 552 Fifth Ave, owned by Sonders. It was tiny and a 107 Canadian per night but in the middle of EVERYTHING and would probably stay there again.

I started off with what I know, what I trust... a food tour. I went through one I found through Tripadvisor (called Gaslamp Quarter Downtown San Diego Food Tour) which I rarely used because the reviews seems so inflated. The tour was ok, host was enthusiastic, stops were largely good. As you can see, everyone was 65+ except me :P

We started off at Spill the Beans Coffee and Bagels- we had one french toast style bagel and cream cheese, and another that was balsamic vinegar and some herb - both pretty solid!!!

Below is thee Yuma building, which was one of the first brick building in downtown San Diego. And was also closed in 1912 when they were trying to clean up the streets (it was a whore house :P

Below was a Taco - Tacos El Cabron, nothing super significant bout these tacos, but I'd say a decent taco all around, LOTS of taco places in downtown San Diego

Above is THE top notch ice cream place. I was actually here coincidentally the night before, I tried there Graham Central Station and Honey Lavender Honeycomb, both were pretty insane. This is a MUST try if you come to San Diego!.

After we went to a Cuban place for a lackluster Empanada, and a Thai restaurant for some spring rolls -  although a bit of an interesting story behind each place, the food at these places didn't make the cut.

I did go to Morning Glory (based on multiple recommendations) for brunch the following day which was amazing. They have an extensive menu that contains lots of lobster.

Bathroom pic as requested by one of our viewers, was very fancy.

Moving on I went to the San Diego Zoo. It is the most visited zoo in the US. It is MASSIVE. And I was walking around for 4 hours! I was hoping to see pandas (re: Anchorman) but found out they were repatriated back to China in 2019.

San Diego has multiple speakeasys. First one i went to was called prohibition, drink was meh but cool scene, def made me feel like I was living in the olden times! They also had a good band playing.

Speakeasy #2 called noble experiment. So this opened up to a hallway. Drinks are ONLY "dealer's choice". I was with a friend and we had some delicious cocktail with allspice, Cassis and a few other ingredients I can't remember but was awesome!

These are donuts I did NOT get, but damn they looked good. Sadly, as we were leaving, realized there was yet ANOTHER speakeasy called YoungBlood that I didn't even realize was there! This was actually a door :( They were full for the night on a Wednesday.

Above are some donuts I did not get, but look how fancy...

Finally, went to the USS Midway Museum, this used to be an aircraft carrier commission after WWII. This thing was massive. Featured below is me in the F-14 Tomcat (I believe) which was made famous in Top Gun.

Today I landed in Sacramento to visit Dan Koff and Basia.

They started off with some AMAZING fish tacos, using Jicama wraps (root vegetable), which was just amazing. I plan to explore Sacramento and surrounding area with them for a few days before going back to Latin America (will be starting with Mexico!)
