Costa Rica: School of the World

So I've been at School of the World since Saturday. Everyday I have 2 hours of Spanish class, and 2 hours of surf classes. I've been cutting the surf classes a bit short because the rib pain from a two hour session had been brutal in the past! I've sustained no pain so far so it;s going very well.  A lot of the basics of surfing sound easy but are hard... look up (don't look down) and staying relaxed when your body wants to tense up so badly.

The instructor I'm working with (Jason), has been in Costa Rica for 30 years and although seems quite serious, is very encouraging.

I'm staying in Jaco, its a great area for surfing but the strip is full of way over priced restaurants (some decent), and the place is a bit sketchy at night. However, the surf school is super safe with nice accommodations and a great lounge where we gather at night.

I'm taking the more advanced Spanish classes which have been ok. As I've been super intense with my Spanish I feel way ahead of the other students, our teacher is a bit surprised I wanna take classes.

It's a fun little community for the week, lots of characters in this school, some people here on a fun vacation, some possibly in the middle of an emotional breakdown :P

Some decent fish tacos below... but was 40 US :(

Not the best pic but there are so many Scarlet Macaw's here (lapa en Español), google tells me they can be worth 2000 to 4000 bucks!

In addition to surf and Spanish classes, they also have a Spanish "lab" component where we take a trip somewhere in the afternoon.

Below are some local surfers. Often people love it so much they teach surfing and when not teaching they are surfing.

Next week I'm going to La Jolla in California for my buddy Chris's wedding, then likely Mexico as I signed up for Fluenz Spanish immersion in Mexico City. It looks AWESOME. I've been researching this program for a while, definitely seems a unique experience and I think it can give me insight into other language learning tips.
